Worth knowing about the 2017 MDX

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • Wipers. Rain-X lists a Rock Lock 3 arm for the 14 in rear blade.
  • LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, fog light, daytime running, front turn signal, tail light, license plate are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. The LED fog lights are fitted only to some models.
  • Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables, on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
  • Tires. Chains go on the front tires only, and because clearance is limited the manual recommends SCC Cable Chain Super Z LT ZT735 cables, while the T165/80D17 compact spare is not on every model.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 94 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Octane. The manual requires 87 octane and recommends 91 for full performance. Regular will not harm the engine; premium is a choice, not a requirement.
  • Fuel. The manual recommends 91 octane premium and warns that fuel below 87 octane can damage the engine.
