Worth knowing about the 2018 Malibu

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • Tires. Low-profile chains may be fitted only on 16- and 17-inch tires, and depending on trim the car carries a compact spare or a tire sealant and compressor kit.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • TPMS. New sensors on this car need a relearn (tool (the manual's TPMS sensor matching process with a relearn tool)); they will not pair on their own by driving.
  • Key fob. Match the FCC ID (HYQ4EA) printed on the back of your fob when buying a replacement; the same car can use two fob designs in one year. A new fob still needs programming to the car.
  • Key fob. The smart key came in 4- and 5-button versions depending on remote start.
  • Fuel. The Hybrid holds 13.0 gallons, and the manual recommends premium fuel for the 2.0L turbo though 87 can be used.
