Worth knowing about the 2017 Escape
- LED lighting. The dome / map light is a sealed LED unit with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Bulbs. The 2017 manual prints the pre-refresh bulb chart, so fog, front turn, rear turn, brake and tail bulbs are left blank until a 2017 source confirms them.
- Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
- Tires. Cables or chains of 10 mm or less go on the front axle only with 235/55R17 tires, and the manual forbids them on 235/50R18 and 235/45R19 tires.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Roof load. The 100 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The limit drops to 45 lb on vehicles with a moonroof.
- Octane. The manual requires 87 octane and recommends 91 for full performance. Regular will not harm the engine; premium is a choice, not a requirement.
