Worth knowing about the 2021 Escape
- Wipers. Bosch and Trico list a 24 in. driver blade while RockAuto describes the Motorcraft WW-2502 as 25 in., and the arm connector is not confirmed.
- LED lighting. The brake light, tail light, license plate are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Bulbs. LED headlamps and fog lamps are sealed units, the manual lists the reverse bulb as a T20 wedge, and the T20 amber turn bulbs are not matched by RockAuto.
- Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
- Tires. Ultra-low-profile cables of 10 mm or less are allowed only with 225/60R18 all-season tires and must go in pairs on the rear tires only, and the manual forbids them on 225/55R19 and 245/45R20 tires.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Key fob. Match the FCC ID (M3N-A2C931426) printed on the back of your fob when buying a replacement; the same car can use two fob designs in one year. A new fob still needs programming to the car.
- Roof load. The 100 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The manual allows no roof load on vehicles with a moonroof.
- Octane. The manual requires 87 octane and recommends 91 for full performance. Regular will not harm the engine; premium is a choice, not a requirement.
- Fuel. The tank is 15.7 gal with AWD or the 2.0L, the hybrid holds 14.3 gal and the plug-in hybrid 11.1 gal.
