Worth knowing about the 2017 Expedition

  • Wipers. The rear blade is Motorcraft WW-1612, so buy it by part number.
  • LED lighting. The daytime running is a sealed LED unit with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. The manual prints HB3 for the 9005 high beam, and vehicles with LED headlamps have sealed units.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 150 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Wheels. Retighten the lug nuts to 150 lb-ft within 100 miles after any wheel is removed, as the manual directs.
  • Roof load. The 200 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Octane. The manual recommends 91 octane for full performance and allows 87. 87 will not harm the engine; the higher grade is a choice, not a requirement.
  • Fuel. The Expedition EL holds 33.5 gallons.
