Worth knowing about the 2017 Taurus

  • LED lighting. The rear turn signal, brake light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. The manual lists D3S HID headlamps; RockAuto also lists halogen bulbs, so no headlamp code is printed.
  • Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
  • Tires. The manual allows SAE Class S chains or cables on the front axle only with P235/55R18 tires.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Key fob. Cars with push-button start use an Intelligent Access key, which also takes one CR2032.
  • Octane. The manual recommends 91 octane for full performance and allows 87. 87 will not harm the engine; the higher grade is a choice, not a requirement.
  • Fuel. Flex-fuel models, marked by a yellow fuel-filler cap or bezel, can also run on E85.
