Worth knowing about the 2017 Cherokee

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • Wipers. Rain-X fits its 14-inch rear blade with a Rock Lock 2 adapter.
  • LED lighting. The daytime running, brake light, tail light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. Headlamp codes are for the bi-halogen lamps; bi-xenon lamps use a D3S capsule serviced by a dealer.
  • Tires. The manual allows reduced-size chains on the front tires only and only on non-original 215/60R17 tires on 17x7 wheels, except that 4x4 models with the two-speed power transfer unit may chain their 225/65R17 and 225/60R18 tires.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Wheels. Check the lug nut torque again after 25 miles, as the manual directs.
  • Roof load. The 150 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Roof. Crossbars must be used whenever cargo is carried on the luggage rack.
  • Fuel. The 2.4-liter flex-fuel engine can also run on E85.
