Worth knowing about the 2022 Aviator
- LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, fog light, daytime running, front turn signal, rear turn signal, brake light, tail light, license plate, dome / map light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables, within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
- Tires. Chains of 10 mm or less go on the rear wheels only, and only on 255/60R19 and 255/55R20 tires. The Grand Touring tire sizes are not shown because the sources disagree.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 150 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Roof load. The 82 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The limit is 165 lb on vehicles without a moonroof.
- Octane. The manual recommends 91 octane for full performance and allows 87. 87 will not harm the engine; the higher grade is a choice, not a requirement.
- Fuel. The Grand Touring plug-in hybrid holds 18.0 gallons.
