Worth knowing about the 2016 GLC

  • Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables, on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
  • Tires. Chains go in pairs on the rear wheels only, and the load and speed ratings shown are for the summer tires in the manual table.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 96 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Wheels. The GLC uses wheel bolts rather than lug nuts, tightened in a crosswise pattern.
  • Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Garage fit. Allow 15.3 ft of length and 6.9 ft of width with the mirrors out.
  • Octane. Premium (91 octane) is required, not recommended; the manual says so.
  • Fuel. The manual calls for premium and allows regular 87 AKI only as a temporary measure, filling no more than half the tank and avoiding full throttle.
