Worth knowing about the 2012 Forester
- Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
- Bulbs. Models with HID headlamps use a dealer-serviced D2R low beam.
- Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
- Tire chains. The manual says not to fit tire chains on this vehicle; wheel-well clearance is too tight.
- Tires. The manual says tire chains cannot be used, and the compact spare is a T155/70D17.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 72 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Roof load. The 150 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The limit covers the rack and its load together.
- Fuel. Turbo models are designed for 91-octane premium, with 87 allowed only temporarily.
