Worth knowing about the 2021 Forester
- Wipers. Rain-X lists these front arms as a special wet-arm push-button type, so choose blades listed for this model rather than by length alone.
- LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, daytime running, brake light, tail light, license plate are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Bulbs. The H16 fog bulb applies to halogen fog lights; LED fog lights are sealed units.
- Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
- Tire chains. The manual says not to fit tire chains on this vehicle; wheel-well clearance is too tight.
- Tires. The manual says tire chains cannot be used, and a non-chain SAE Class S traction device goes on the front wheels only if its maker recommends it, and the compact spare is a T145/80D17.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- TPMS. New sensors on this car need a relearn (tool); they will not pair on their own by driving.
- Key fob. Match the FCC ID (HYQ14AHK) printed on the back of your fob when buying a replacement; the same car can use two fob designs in one year. A new fob still needs programming to the car.
- Key fob. Trims without push-button start use a key with a remote head that takes a CR1620.
- Roof load. The 176 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The limit covers crossbars, carrier and cargo together while driving; the 700 lb figure in the manual applies only when parked.
- Dimensions. Height is for models with roof rails; models without them stand 67.5 inches tall.
