Worth knowing about the 2026 Outback
- LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, fog light, daytime running are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
- Tire chains. The manual restricts tire chains on this vehicle. The limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything.
- Tires. The manual says tire chains cannot be used, and a non-chain SAE Class S traction device goes on the front wheels only if its maker recommends it, and Wilderness models carry a full-size spare.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Roof load. The 220 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The limit covers crossbars, carrier and cargo together while driving; the 800 lb figure in the manual applies only when parked.
- Dimensions. Wilderness models stand 68.3 inches tall with 9.5 inches of ground clearance.
- Fuel. The manual recommends 91 octane for 2.4L turbo models when towing.
