Worth knowing about the 2019 WRX

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • LED lighting. The brake light, tail light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. The H11 and HB3 codes are for halogen headlights and the H16 is for halogen fog lights; LED headlights and LED fog lights are sealed units.
  • Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
  • Tire chains. The manual restricts tire chains on this vehicle. The limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything.
  • Tires. The manual says tire chains cannot be used, and a non-chain SAE Class S traction device goes on the front wheels only if its maker recommends it, and the compact spare is a T145/70D17 or a 205/50R17 depending on the car.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • TPMS. New sensors on this car will not pair on their own by driving; they need a relearn. Method: tool.
  • Key fob. Trims without push-button start use a key with a remote head that takes a CR1620.
  • Roof load. The 88 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Roof. The limit covers crossbars, carrier and cargo together.
  • Octane. The manual recommends 91 octane for full performance and allows 87. 87 will not harm the engine; the higher grade is a choice, not a requirement.
