Worth knowing about the 2014 Highlander

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • Wipers. Toyota's guide lists a 12 in. (305 mm) rear blade on a Toyota-specific mount.
  • Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables, within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
  • Tires. Tire chains go on the front tires only (the manual sets no tire-size limit); some trucks carry a T165/90D18 compact spare and others a full-size spare, and the manual prints 245/60R18 105T and P245/60R18 104T as alternative 18-in. fitments.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 76 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Wheels. Aluminum wheels take washer-seat nuts and steel wheels, including a steel spare, take conical-seat nuts, both at the same torque per the owner's manual.
  • TPMS. New sensors on this car will not pair on their own by driving; they need a relearn. Method: tool (new sensor IDs are registered by a dealer; after a pressure change, re-initialize with the TPMS reset switch).
  • Key fob. The smart key takes a CR2032 instead.
  • Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Roof. The roof rails need two or more Toyota cross rails, or equivalent, before carrying a load.
  • Dimensions. The figures above are for the LE 4-cylinder FWD; other body configurations differ in length, wheelbase and weight.
