Worth knowing about the 2018 Highlander
- Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
- LED lighting. The brake light, tail light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
- Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables, on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
- Tires. The compact spare is a T165/90D18, and tire chains go on the front tires only.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 76 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- TPMS. New sensors on this car need a relearn (tool (new sensor IDs are registered by a dealer; after rotation, re-initialize with the TPMS reset switch)); they will not pair on their own by driving.
- Key fob. Match the FCC ID (HYQ14FBA) printed on the back of your fob when buying a replacement; the same car can use two fob designs in one year. A new fob still needs programming to the car.
- Key fob. Trims without the Smart Key System use a remote-head key (GQ4-52T) that takes a CR2016.
- Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Roof. The LE and LE Plus have no roof rails.
- Dimensions. The figures above are for the LE 4-cylinder FWD; other body configurations differ in length, wheelbase and weight.
