Worth knowing about the 2023 GTI
- Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare, size T125/70R18. Search Amazon for spare tires →
- Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables, within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
- Tires. The manual allows snow chains on the front wheels only, fine-mesh chains with a lock no larger than 13.5 mm, on tire and wheel sizes Volkswagen approves.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 103 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Wheels. The wheels are held by wheel bolts that thread into the hub rather than by nuts, and the manual gives one torque for steel and alloy wheels.
- Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
- Dimensions. Length runs 168.8 to 169.1 inches by equipment, and curb weight and GVWR differ between the manual and DSG cars (GVWR 4,255 and 4,343 lb).
