Worth knowing about the 2014 Edge

  • Bulbs. The halogen headlamp uses one HIR2 (9012) bulb for both beams, and HID headlamps use a D3S that a dealer replaces.
  • Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
  • Tires. The manual allows SAE Class S cables on the front axle only with P235/65R17 or P245/60R18 tires, and no cables or traction devices with P245/50R20 or P265/40R22 tires.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Wheels. Retighten the lug nuts to 100 lb-ft within 100 miles after any wheel is removed, as the manual directs.
  • Roof load. The 100 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Fuel. All-wheel-drive models hold 19.2 gallons.
