Worth knowing about the 2023 Explorer

  • Wipers. The arm connector is not confirmed by a blade maker.
  • LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, fog light, daytime running, front turn signal, brake light, tail light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Bulbs. The manual lists a W21W reverse bulb, which RockAuto does not list.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 150 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Roof. The limit drops to 75 lb on vehicles with a moonroof.
  • Octane. The manual requires 87 octane and recommends 91 for full performance. Regular will not harm the engine; premium is a choice, not a requirement.
  • Fuel. The 3.0L and 3.3L hold 20.2 gal and the hybrid 18.0 gal.
