Worth knowing about the 2026 Explorer

  • LED lighting. The low beam, high beam, fog light, daytime running, front turn signal, rear turn signal, brake light, tail light, reverse light, license plate, dome / map light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
  • Tire chains. The manual permits chains or cables, on the drive wheels only, fitted to the standard tire size. Chains for this size on Amazon →
  • Tires. Ford approves chains of 10 mm or less on the rear wheels only and only on 255/60R18, 255/65R18, 265/60R18 and 255/55R20 tires, so 21-in. wheels take none.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 150 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Key fob. The manual also lists a CR2032 remote.
  • Roof load. The 165 lb roof limit is the dynamic figure for driving and includes the rack itself. It is not a limit for a rooftop tent when parked; the manual gives no static figure.
  • Roof. The limit is 75 lb with a glass roof and no load is allowed without roof-rack side rails.
  • Octane. The manual requires 87 octane and recommends 91 for full performance. Regular will not harm the engine; premium is a choice, not a requirement.
  • Fuel. The 3.0L and 3.3L hold 20.2 gal and the hybrid 18.0 gal.
