Worth knowing about the 2012 Taurus

  • Bulbs. High-series cars use D3S HID headlamps instead of the halogen 9005 (HB3).
  • Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
  • Tires. The manual allows only SAE Class S cables, front axle only, on P235/60R17 or P235/55R18 tires, and forbids any traction device on the P255/45R19 and 245/45R20 tires.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Key fob. Cars with push-button start use an Intelligent Access key, which also takes one CR2032.
  • Fuel. The SHO runs on 87 octane but the manual recommends 91 octane premium for best performance.
