Worth knowing about the 2013 Taurus
- LED lighting. The rear turn signal, brake light are sealed LED units with no user-replaceable bulb. A failure means replacing the assembly.
- Bulbs. High-series cars use D3S HID headlamps instead of the halogen 9012 (HIR2).
- Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables of SAE Class S (low clearance), within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
- Tires. The manual allows only SAE Class S cables, front axle only, on P235/60R17 or P235/55R18 tires, and forbids any traction device on the P255/45R19 and 245/45R20 tires.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Key fob. Cars with push-button start use an Intelligent Access key, which also takes one CR2032.
- Fuel. Flex-fuel models, marked by a yellow fuel-filler cap or bezel, can also run on E85, and the manual recommends premium fuel for the EcoBoost engines when towing or under severe duty.
