Worth knowing about the 2013 2500
- Bulbs. Premium projector headlamps take an HIR2 low beam and sealed LED turn signals, vertical fog lamps take a 9006, and premium LED tail lamps are sealed units.
- Tire chains. The manual permits tire chains or cables of SAE Class U, within limits on which tires and which wheels. Those limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything. Search Amazon for tire chains →
- Tires. The manual allows Class U chains on the rear tires only, and only on these sizes.
- Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 135 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
- Wheels. The manual's tire-change steps give 135 lb-ft (183 N·m) for 2500 and 3500 single-rear-wheel trucks, which use cone-seat nuts.
- Octane. The manual recommends 89 octane for full performance and allows 87. 87 will not harm the engine; the higher grade is a choice, not a requirement.
- Fuel. The tank holds 34 gallons on short-bed trucks and 35 on long beds, and the Cummins diesel version runs on diesel fuel.
