Worth knowing about the 2014 Outback

  • Connector. Both front blades use a j-hook connector. A blade of the right length with the wrong connector will not clip on, so check the connector before you buy.
  • Spare. This vehicle carries a compact (temporary) spare.
  • Tire chains. The manual restricts tire chains on this vehicle. The limits are in the next note; read them before you fit anything.
  • Tires. The manual says tire chains cannot be used but allows another traction device such as spring chains if its maker recommends it, and the compact spare is a T145/80R17.
  • Torque. Tighten lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs in a star pattern with a torque wrench, and re-check after the first 50 miles. This figure is from the owner's manual; an impact gun will overshoot it.
  • Key fob. The push-button-start access key takes a CR1632.
  • Roof. The roof rails swing out as crossbars, and the manual sets the load limit by the genuine Subaru carrier's own manual rather than a single figure.
  • Dimensions. Height is 66.1 inches with the roof rails set up as crossbars.
